Celebrity Baby Surnames

Though celebs may make bold choices in the first name department (see Memphis Eve, Apple or Bronx Mogwli for prime examples), they stick close to tradition with surnames, with the baby taking on the father’s last name. Take for example Francesca “Frannie” Nora Bateman (daughter of Jason Bateman and Amanda Anka), Olive Baron Cohen (daughter of Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher) or Honor Warren (daughter of Cash Warren and Jessica Alba). Russell Crowe, star of the new movie State of Play, and his wife Danielle Spencer, an Australian singer and actress, diverge from this pattern more than most, with both of their two sons taking her last name as their middle name – Tennyson Spencer Crowe and Charles “Charlie” Spencer Crowe. Though not as radical as dispensing with the Crowe part altogether, this choice is still rare in the celebrity baby naming world. But this shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise – Crowe is hardly an actor known for subscribing to convention. And perhaps Crowe knows that tradition can change, for after all, ‘tis not too late to seek a newer world.
