New Baby Alert: Ioan Gruffudd Welcomes Daughter Ella Betsi

He's known for bringing Welsh names to America, but heartthrob Ioan Gruffudd and wife actress Alice Evans have chosen Ella -- a name that couldn't be more accessible to American ears -- as the first name for their new daughter, born Septmber 6, 2009. Until we hear more from the parents we will assume Ella's middle name Betsi is a creative play on the more traditional Betsy, a dimunuative of Elizabeth.

I avoid talking about Ioan Gruffudd at all because I'm so scared of pronouncing it. I just call him by his character name, Mr. Fantastic.
Ella I can handle. :-)
The thing that most strikes me about this name is how much Ella Betsi feels like a variation on Elisabeth.
