New Baby Alert: Alicia Minshew names daughter Willow Lenora
Alicia Minshew, best known for her role on All My Children, welcomed a daughter this week: Willow Lenora. As PEOPLE reports, Lenora is after Alicia's mom, Lenore.
We think this name has an old fashioned vibe but a contemporary flair. Willow has only been on the charts for ten years, last year reaching as high as #408. In Maine, Vermont, and Wyoming, however, Willow is a top-100 name, testifying to its "creative fringe" appeal. It's also a tree name -- a twist on the popularity of floral monikers. But this name is far from an upstart. Willa, a consistently popular name from the turn of the century, fell off the charts in 1962. Replacing the final "a" with the "ow" did the trick to bring this lovely name back into fashion. (The Name Candy database contains quite a number of celebrity babies with Willow for a first or middle name!)
Lenora is a twist on Eleanor, which means "light, torch, bring." Eleanor is a rare case -- a name that sounds old-fashioned but which has actually been on the baby name charts every year they've been kept. Lenore and Lenora both enjoyed a vogue into the early seventies before disappearing. We particularly like the version Lenora.
What do you think of Willow Lenora?

Another well-known Willow, at least among fans of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, is Willow Rosenberg, one of Buffy's best buddies.
What strikes me is that in the movie "Willow" the baby's name is Elora--very similar to Lenora.
