Names of the First Babies of 2010 from All Fifty States

So what do you name the first baby of the year? How about Winter, Thyme, Angel or Desmond? As for middle names, how about Hennessey, Augustus, Eva or Crimson?

Here at Name Candy, we've scoured the local newspapers and compiled this list of the first babies born in 2010 in every state in the USA. As the world celebrated the new decade, parents celebrated the January 1st births of Catalina, Kylena, Keondre and Sinsear; two Xaviers; a Hailey and a Haily; a Riley and a Rylee.

So who was the very first 2010 baby to be born in the country? Maryland claims it was Olivia Rose, who arrived four seconds into the new year. Not so fast, though: babies were also born "at the stroke of midnight" in Arizona, Florida, Illinois, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania. In Florida, the midnight baby was born in a different year and a different decade than his twin. Read on to find out their names!

Note: We have tried to find the earliest baby born in any part of the state, but if you know of an earlier baby born in any state, let us know in the comments.

Wow, a lot more unusual names than I'd expect.

Not really my style, but I like that Thyme Eva was born at midnight on New Year's Day.

My favourites are probably Rosa Lee and Jonah Augustus Neal. Two of the most normal ones.

One of my friends had the New Year Baby in our city, 5 years ago. Her daughter's name is Hanna. (Don't know her middle name.)

Way to go, Idaho! Taking a bad name (Nevaeh) and making it worse by spelling it Nevaha.

I like Crimson, but that might be because I am an Alabama fan. :)

Do you think Kameale is pronounced like Camille?

I think Elena and Sonya are both really nice and underused. I also like Monte (prefer Monty), and think Marcello is pretty cool. I REALLY like Desmond! The fact that there are both a Desmond and a Molly (Amalia -- also nice) has me singing Ob-la-di Ob-la-da. Meanwhile, while Rosa Lee is nice, it unavoidably brings The Yellow Rose of Texas to mind!

Winter Holloway is remarkably poetic without sounding florid.

These names suck for the most part. Parents who change the spelling of a name to make it more unique just show their level of intelligence. Horrible names. The U.S. is gone crazy. Wish some people didn't breed.

@Anonymous, like it or not, the naming culture has changed and parents across all social groups are looking to names as a way to distinguish their children - almost always with the best intentions, to help them stand out in the big big world.

It is a misplaced and desperate attempt at originality and creativity by the parents who then doom the child to a life of ridicule and people's constantly misspelling and mispronouncing their stupid names.

My all time favorite name is Humperdink Fangbone who comes from Sanduski Ohio and is related to, among others, Fanny Fangbone. The people of Sanduski are really into their names.

Being named the two most overused girl names ever- Mary Elizabeth, I would encourage everyone to name their kids with something with a little more thought that picking out a name from a baby book.

I work with two Mary's, a Beth and a Liz- and my husband goes through the same "Were you talking to me?" situation every time someone calls out his name-Steven.
