Favorite Mom Blogger Baby Names
Mom blogging has arrived! (What? That's not news to you?) A recent (and long) profile in the New York Times has put this "fringe activity" front and center. When The Gray Lady published a piece on mom blogging a year ago, the dismissive tone made some bloggers mad, but last week's profile of Heather Armstrong and other bloggers celebrates the sharing of personal stories. And celebrity watchers take note: Reese Witherspoon reportedly wants to play mom blogger Ree Drummond (The Pioneer Woman) in the upcoming movie version of her life.
We, of course, have always celebrated and loved mom bloggers. And we also celebrate and love the names they choose. Mom bloggers have some of the most interesting names out there.
Let's begin with Stefania Pomponi Butler, CityMama, whose son Dashiell was born last week. Congratulations! Here's what Baby Name Wizard says about the name:
Can a name be too cool? With the imprint of Sam Spade creator Dashiell Hammett and the nickname Dash, this one is a veritable dry martini. If you think your kid can pull it off, go for it.
His sister's names are also cool: Bunny and Wallie.
And here are a few more of our favorite mom blogger sibling sets:
Liz Gumbinner, Mom-101: Sage and Thalia
J.D. Griffioen, Sweet Juniper: Juniper and Gram
Rebecca Woolf, Girl's Gone Child: Archer Sage and Fable Luella (She recently discovered she is expecting twins. We are eagerly anticipating their names.)
Ciaran Blumenfeld, Momenfluential: Marly, Annika (Ani), Galileo (Leo), and Fox
Kim Orlando, Travelling Mom: Not only is her last name a favorite tourist destination, two of her three kids share names with European Capitals: Sophia and Rome
By the way, if you are a mom blogger, check out Ciaran Blumenfeld's Project Mom Casting. This unscripted reality tv show about blogging moms is in its final phase of casting. For more information, become a fan on Facebook. (If you are interested in participating, you have until 11:59 p.m. (PST) on Wednesday, March 16 to submit a three-minute video.)

I love Jenna's daughter's name from SweetFineDay - Claudine! So darling!
Well, my favorites, of course, are my own children: Son and daughter, Rollie and Tiller. (Actually, Roland and Matilda, but we went with the NNs.)
I do like Dooce's daughter's name: Leta. Other than that, I don't really follow a lot of "mommy bloggers." I do follow moms who have blogs, but what usually makes them interesting to me is not that they are mothers, but what else they do while they are being moms. Dooce and Pioneer Woman are great examples. And Dooce gets stuck with the mommy blogger label, but i read her before she ever had kids, as did a ton of other folks.
Just not a fan of the Mommy blogger label, even though I guess folks would label me the same.
[stepping off soapbox]
"Mom boogers"? Might want to edit that...
Lol Elizabeth N. It's fixed.
@Annie, I agree with you. If you look, you'll see we deliberately didn't use the term "mommy blogger" (although "Mom Blogger" is admittedly not as far off from this term as one might like). In fact, one of the things we noticed about Belkin's recent New York Times profile is that she doesn't use the term mommy blogging. She does quote someone else characterizing domestic blogs as "mommy blogs," but she herself does not do this characterizing.
However, what is the alternative? If we say "domestic blogs," will anyone know what we mean? Would you click to read bout baby names on "domestic blogs"?
I like the names Jane Roper of Baby Squared gave her twins: Clio and Elsa.

I like Amalah's Noah and Ezra, as well as The Underwear Drawer's Michelle Au sons, Cal and Mack.
I love MckMama's kids names:
Kieran, Cullen, Maisy, Stellan, and Lachlan.
I suppose you could call them "mother bloggers." But I don't think I would.
Hm, another Archer! Hope the name doesn't get all hip.
The names are all trying to hard to be "cute" and "original," kind of like a lot of female bloggers out there. I understand very well how building your community and being creative is important for these women, but for me, as a childless, college-aged person, it's like "eh."
They all seem like plants and random European cities. Here are mother-blogger-child-generator suggestions:
Thyme & Ljubljana
Astromelia & Winterthur
Balsam & Manchester
I love Ciaran's kids names- especially Gallileo, and Annika! I really love the name Leo for shortly, too. I think the names Archer and Fable are pretty interesting, although I'd never name any of my kids them. I'm a big fan of Juniper, and also Gram and Sage although I prefer the spellings Saige and Graham or Graeme. I think Juniper is about one of the most far out (excuse my 70's) yet grounded names ever! You don't hear of many combos like that.
Anyways, great names I must say!
Great article. I apreciate the crarity and the objectivity.
