Elizabeth Taylor's Children's Names: Michael, Christopher, Liza and Maria
Today the world lost the magnificent and magical Elizabeth Taylor, who died at age 79. Best known for her film career that spanned 70 movies and two Academy Awards, Taylor was also famous as an AIDS activist, a jewelry designer, and a perfumer. She was married seven times to socialites, actors, singers and politicians, and had a famously close friendship with Michael Jackson. Elizabeth Taylor undoubtedly led a full life, which her son Michael Wilding said in a formal statement released this morning: "My Mother was an extraordinary woman who lived life to the fullest, with great passion, humor, and love."
Michael Howard Wilding (born 1953) is named after his father, the actor Michael Wilding who Elizabeth Taylor married and divorced in the 1950s. She also had a second son with Wilding in 1955 named Christopher Edward. Both Michael and Christopher are very popular names in the United States, ranking #2 and #9, respectively.
Taylor had her first daughter in 1957 with third husband Michael Todd. She is named Elizabeth Frances Todd after her mother and nicknamed Liza, a name also held by actress Liza Minnelli, though Minnelli's is not a nickname. Elizabeth herself often went by the nickname Liz, just one of the many nicknames that can be created from the name.
In 1964, Taylor and her fifth husband Richard Burton adopted Maria, a 3-year old girl from Germany. Though they didn't choose the name Maria, it has always been popular throughout the world, probably due to its biblical origins as The Virgin Mary.
Elizabeth Taylor also had 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grand children.
