What Did Evangeline Lilly Name Her Son?
Evangeline Lilly is finally clueing us in on the name of her son!
The notoriously private star of TV's Lost is big on keeping her private life private. She didn't announce her pregnancy or her son's subsequent arrival — and she's remaining tight-lipped about the now 5-month-old boy's name. However, while promoting her new film Real Steel, she did drop a pretty big hint.
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week, she revealed that the baby was born in Hawaii, where she filmed Lost and met her son's father Norman Kali, a production assistant on the show, who grew up in Kauai. Evangeline shared: "My baby did not have a name for a month. It took me a month to name my child... I had my baby outside in a thunderstorm. It was really romantic. His name means "the thunder."
The talk show host's researchers quickly came up with the names Halulu (which means "to roar") and Hekili ("thunder") as possibilities, but Evi said it's neither one. So here are some others we came up with:
- Kahekili: While Jimmy guessed Hekili, he didn't guess Kahekili -- ka ("the") hekili ("thunder"). Hmmm.
- Kane: In Hawaiian mythology, Kane-hekili was one of the original four major gods, who was also known as the "god of thunder."
- Tawhaki: The Polynesian god of thunder and lightning, and also of good health
- Nakolo: A Hawaiian word meaning the "rumbling or roaring of thunder"
- Hekilipamalo: Hawaiian expression for thunder without rain
- Ahomana: A Polynesian name meaning "thunder"
- Thor: Okay, so Thor isn't a Hawaiian name, but in Norse mythology, Thor is the god associated with thunder and storms.
While researching Hawaiian names when Antonio Sabato welcomed Antonio Kamakanaalohamaikalani Harvey Sabato III earlier this year, we learned a few things like: 1) male Hawaiian names frequently begin with Ka- and Ke-, so Kahekili is a good guess. Kane also fits the bill. 2) Traditionally, Hawaiian names were long with many syllables and vowels. This practice diminished for a while but regained popularity in the early 2000s. 3) Another common practice is using a Hawaiian name as middle names. So the name meaning thunder could actually be the baby's middle name.
There isn't that much information out there about Evangeline's partner — other than his PA work on Lost and movies 50 First Dates and Tropic Thunder. However, we were able to dig up his full name (thanks to a newspaper police blotter... oops!) which is Norman Kekoaonaona Kali. Yep, he has a Hawaiian name, starting with Ke- for a middle name. Kekoaonaona actually means "the brave" (Kekoa) and "gentle disposition" (Onaona).
And a note about new mom Evangeline's name — the Canadian actress' birth name is actually Nicole Evangeline Lilly. She dropped the Nicole when she landed her first acting gig, which was Lost.
