Linda Cardellini's Double-Barreled Baby
Now we know what two of them were! Leap Year baby Lilah-Rose was born February 29. Lilah is a super hit name at the moment, rising quickly since 2004 when it didn't even make the top 1000 to #331 last year. (the more familiar Lila is at #155). And Rose has become the de rigueur middle name for the celebrity set. We have over 40 celebrity babies with the middle name Rose in our Celebrity Baby Names Database. (Compare that to 24 for Grace and 12 Ann/Anne). Musician Lisa Loeb has a similarly named daughter Lyla Rose and American Idol Contestant Michael Lynche just named his daughter Layla Rose.
Of course, Lilah-Rose is not the same as Lilah Rose. As our own Name Lady recently wrote in a column titled "Are There Rules for Double-Barreled Names?"
"You know those sentences that show off grammar in a funny way? Like “Let’s eat Grandpa!” versus “Let’s eat, Grandpa!” Think of double-barrel names like that. Take a name like Mary Beth Anne Smith. Is this a double barrel first name (Mary Beth) with a single middle name? Or is it, instead, a single first name (Mary) followed by a double middle name? There’s no way to tell. But Mary-Beth Anne Smith makes the whole thing immediately clear."
The Name Lady also notes that some parents simply like the kicky look of the hyphen holding the whole name together.
What do you think of the name Lilah-Rose? Do you think the hyphen makes the name feel more special?
