Glee Creator Ryan Murphy Welcomes Son Logan Phineas
It looks like the creator of hit TV series Glee and American Horror Story, Ryan Murphy, is awfully fond of the name Finn. Not only is it one of the main characters on his show Glee, he also chose Phineas as the middle name for his newborn son with partner David Miller. They welcomed Logan Phineas Miller Murphy earlier this week.
Logan has been a popular name for a while now, ranked at No. 20 last year and a fixture on the name charts for decades. Despite its mainstream success, it hasn't been a big name with celebrities. This will be the first celebrity baby named Logan to enter our NameCandy database.
Phineas, on the other hand, has never been particularly popular in the U.S. with the general population. It had a brief turn in the spotlight when Julia Roberts named her son Phinnaeus, but otherwise it isn't a favorite with celebrities either. Finn, on the other hand, is quite popular, ranked No. 304 in 2011 and with five celebrity baby Finns in our database, including Tori Spelling's son born earlier this year.
Finn is an obvious modern alternative to Phineas, however, we would think Phineas would also be more popular considering its use in books and on screen. Particulary as it is the name of a character in the Harry Potter books and in the classic novel A Separate Peace.
