Alright, Alright, Alright: Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves Welcome Baby Livingston
Actor Matthew McConaughey and long-time love Camila Alves welcomed their third child this week. The couple broke the happy news via WhoSay and shared the new baby’s stats and name with fans. The newest McConaughey is a boy named Livingston Alves McConaughey who joins big brother Levi, 4, and sister Vida, 2.
Name-watchers might have guessed that the baby’s name might include an L or a V, but it’s a safe bet that they didn’t expect a 3 syllable, 10 letter follow-up to the short and sweet names bestowed on Camila and Matthew’s first two kids. But we think we figured out how baby Livingston got his name.
In the sign off to his tweet, Matthew included what we think is a hint about the name’s meaning. “Just Keep Livin’” is the name of his non-profit foundation dedicated to helping high school students lead healthy and active lives. We think it may also be Matthew’s personal motto and the inspiration for all his kids’ names. 2-year old Vida’s name is the Portuguese word for life. Their eldest child’s name, Levi, is of biblical origin and means “joined” in Hebrew but it has a j.k. livin connection too—move two letters and it anagrams to Live.
Perhaps best known in quotations as the name of Victorian missionary and explorer ( of “Dr. Livingstone, I presume” fame) Livingston is another last name being repurposed as a first name, it also has the -ston ending shared by Kingston, Preston, Easton, Weston, (and in a pinch, Austin). So although it may not be as much of a trendsetter as Kingston, we think Livingston is a nice tribute to dad’s beliefs and will fit in pretty well among Hollywood tots.

My question is: what will they call him? Is there a nickname for Livingston that I'm not aware of?
I think Livingston is a name with many meanings.
It sounds, from the article, like they will call him Livin.
just because his name has three syllables doesn't mean he'll have a nickname. i have four kids, none of them have nicknames. it's a matter of personal taste.
If you just pull small parts out, I could see Vin(ny) or even Tony as nicknames.
I really like all three names for the young Alves McConaughey brood, but I feel Livingston is a bit too close to Levi to really work for me as sibling names. Just personal taste.
NO idea also. But I actually heard the same name in a movie, I just can't remember the title and the artist of the movie. And I am not sure if it was a first or a surname. Anyway, it still sounds good, but I think we'll have a little bit of a problem of having a nickname for "Livingston", I just think so. - Arthur van der Vant
