Social Network Star Sean Parker Welcomes New Baby
Tech entrepreneur Sean Parker, famous for founding the music file-sharing service Napster as well as serving as the first president of Facebook, enjoyed another personal accomplishment this week when he welcomed his first baby. Sean and his fiancee Alexandra Lenas announced that their girl, born Jan. 6, is named Winter Victoria Parker.
It's fitting that a trailblazer like Sean would choose Winter for his daughter: the name carries celebrity clout while remaining just outside of the mainstream. We last saw Winter when Gretchen Mol's daughter, Winter Morgan Wiliams, was born in 2011. As we pointed out then, "Winter is the only season that, so far, has never made the US Social Security Administration's baby name charts. Autumn is a top 100 name, and Summer, which has fallen from its 2005 peak, is still in the top 200. Even Spring had its moment in the baby naming sun in the 1970s. However, when Nicole Richie and Joel Madden bestowed Winter on their daughter, Harlow Winter Kate, they single-handedly put this name on the baby naming map. Winter just seems, well, cool."
To balance out the outsider appeal of Winter, Sean and Alexandra gave their daughter the classic middle name Victoria. Could their choice also have something to do with 2010's hit movie The Social Network, in which the character of Sean Parker gave his famous monologue on the success of Victoria's Secret? In the movie, Sean's character used that store as an example of underestimating the potential of a fantastic idea. It sounds from this baby's name like Sean again recognizes a great thing--and he doesn't want anyone to forget it.
