New Baby Alert: The Mentalist’s Amanda Righetti welcomes Knox Addison
Actress Amanda Righetti and her producer husband Jordan Alan welcomed a baby boy named Knox Addison Alan earlier this month, reports PEOPLE. The Mentalist star and husband picked two very interesting names for their son.
Knox is, of course, the name of the boy half of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s twins who were born in 2008. Before Knox Jolie-Pitt, the name was not in the top 1000 in the US, but in 2011 the name Knox was given to 626 boys. Unlike sister Vivienne, Knox’s name hasn’t risen meteorically. And until 2008, we imagine the strongest associations with the name were Fort Knox—famed home 5 tons of gold bullion, it is also a not uncommon surname, cooks know it from Knox brand gelatin, and big fans of Dead Poet’s Society may remember it as the first name of the character played by Josh Charles.
No matter what their naming inspiration was, names containing X are on the rise—from Felix to Xander to Jax/Jaxon.
Addison is the real outlier. On the heels of Madison, this name has swung from being a rare boys’ name to a top 20 girls’ name. It disappeared from the top 1000 for boys a few years back, while ascending to #13 for girls. While it had been rising for girls for a few years, the death knell was sounded when trendy namer Shonda Rimes introduced a female character named Addison on Grey’s Anatomy in 2005.
Like Jay Mohr’s son Meredith, we wonder if a little star power will swing the pendulum (somewhat) back to the boys’ side and make the name a gender neutral choice?
