Names in the News: Bruno Mars’ Sisters Get a Reality Show

Bruno Mars, Peter Gene Hernandez, is a multi-talented and multi-platinum selling artist. Apparently he comes from a family of musical performers including four sisters who have formed a girl group called The LYLAS (as in Love You Like A Sister). WE tv will be airing a new reality show about the four Hawaiian siblings who have names as interesting as their family background as they move to LA to start a musical career.

The Hernandez family is from an interesting international background; according to Wikipedia dad Peter is a New Yorker of Puerto Rican and Eastern European Jewish ethnicities and mom Bernie is Filipina, and the girls’ names are suitably globetrotting.

Presley – We’ve talked about Presley before, but we think the name Presley may have special significance for the Hernandez family. As a young child brother Bruno was an Elvis impersonator, as was their uncle.

Tiara – no longer among the top 1000 names, Tiara peaked at #216 in the late 80s. Though it wasn’t a particular hit in Hawaii, Tiara’s sound is similar to names that are uniquely popular there like Malia, Kira, and Aria.

Jaime Kailani– Although this spelling is usually reserved for the Spanish version of James, it is also occasionally used as a variation of the girls’ name Jamie. However, based on Jaime Hernandez’ twitter profile her name is taken from the French expression “J’aime” meaning “I love.” Kailani is fairly popular  in Hawaii. It’s said to be a combination of the words Sea and Sky in Hawaiian and with first name Jaime the parents seem to have created a multi-lingual name that celebrates their island home.

Tahiti – Although this name is very rare, it’s the Polynesian word meaning “little island,” we think Tahiti would fit right in as a celebrity baby name as place names become ever more trendy.

Could Tahiti, Presley, Jaime and Tiara become as popular as Kim, Kourtney, and Khloe? Do you have a favorite Hawaiian name?

How did Bruno Mars' sisters end up with pretty nice names and he got stuck with the classic Peter. It is true, people name their sons more conservatively than they name their daughters. This is just another example.

Traditionally business plans have been highly confidential and quite limited in audience. The business plan itself is generally regarded as secret. However the emergence of free software and open source has opened the model and made the notion of an open business plan possible. - TexasLending.com
