New Baby for Kings of Leon Drummer
When we last heard from the Kings of Leon, frontman Caleb Followill had just welcomed baby girl Dixie Pearl. Now his brother, Kings of Leon drummer Nathan Followill, is continuing the family tradition of sweet, old-fashioned first names. Nathan and wife Jessie Baylin welcomed daughter Violet Marlowe Followill on Friday.
Violet has a long history. After peaking in popularity in the 1910s, it fell off the charts during the later part of the 20th century and has only returned to the spotlight in the past decade. While the most famous celebrity babe with this name is probably Violet Anne Affleck, daughter of Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck, there is also a strong tradition of Tinseltown musicians who have named their blooming baby girls Violet: Dave Grohl is dad to Violet Maye, Christina Milian and producer The Dream are parents to Violet Madison, and Emily Robison is mother to Violet Isabel.
In contrast with his brother's choice of more traditional middle name Pearl, however, Nathan picked a very contemporary middle name with Marlowe. In 2012, we wrote: "Marlowe is an updated twist on Marlo, which was briefly popular in the 1960s. Since peaking at #831, the name has not charted in the top 1000, in either its feminine or masculine form. However, we may just be seeing the beginning the rise of a hit name, as [Sienna] Miller follows actors Jason Schwartzman and Thorsten Kaye in choosing this name for a daughter. Whimsical yet androgynous with a fun spelling to boot, Marlowe has potential to be a new chart-climber."
