It's a girl for actress Ellen Pompeo and music producer husband Chris Ivery.  According to US Magazine, the baby girl, named Stella Luna Pompeo Ivery, was born Septmeber 15, 2009.  It's a celestial pick for the Grey's Anatomy star.  Stella and Luna, both hot names are their own, mean "star" and "moon," respectively.  It's not the first time we've seen these names together.  Parents will recognize Stellaluna as the name of the baby fruit bat in the book and animated series Stellaluna.

What do you think?  Does the name Stella Luna sound heavenly to you?  Or will you always think of the little bat?

Rather than the bat herself, I always think of one of my mom's cows (my family raises beef cattle) who is named after the bat.

So, I'm seeing a large-eared, big-headed, freakishly large white Shorthorn, rather than thinking about a baby.

Seriously? Who would do that? Do you think she knew about the book?!?! I guess it is a great story, but who would name their kid after a bat of all things? In my mind someone who knew of the book suggested it and left out the bat part.

This is their first child, right? So probably they had no clue about the bat! They just thought they were being clever with the whole "star moon" thing. But come preschool, it'll be bat city.

At least it's a cute bat. :-)
