New Baby Alert: Boris Becker Welcomes Baby Amadeus

Tennis legend Boris Becker and his wife Lilly Kerssenberg welcomed their first child together on Tuesday, February 9, according to PEOPLE.  The new baby's name is Amadeus Benedict Edley Luis Becker. He joins older siblings Noah Gabriel, Elias and Anna, Becker's children from previous relationships.

Well, Amadeus is not a name we hear too often here at NameCandy, but it's certainly one with a pop culture heritage -- just not a very current one. Who can hear the name Amadeus and not think of the movie, the musical, or the man -- Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.  Interestingly enough, Mozart's given name was Theophilus, but he preferred the Latin translation, Amadeus. (both mean "one who loves God")

Baby Amadeus isn't the only one of Becker's children to have a musically-inspired name.  Eldest brother Noah was named for dad's close friends, musicians Yannick Noah and Peter Gabriel.

What do you think of the name Amadeus?  With a name like Amadeus Benedict Edley Luis, what do you think a good nickname will be?

Wow, I am kind of a fan of the name (both Amadeus, and Amadeus Benedict Edley etc).

I know someone with a kid named Amadeo -- he goes by Deo (as in Day-oh), I think.

The obvious nickname, given his initials, is Abel! I could also picture going by Day (or, if he happened to want something more conventional, Ben).

With such an extra-ordinary name, I wouldn't be surprised if his nickname (at least in childhood) ends up being super simple -- something along the lines of Ama, Ben, Ed or Lou.
