New Baby Alert: James Otto and the Palindromes

Country singer James Otto and his wife Amy welcomed their new baby this week, Otto confirmed on Twitter; as they'd already announced she would be, she's called Ava Katherine Otto.

Choosing the name was easy for the pair, according to an interview James did with The Boot:

We looked through a bunch of names ... got the baby names book and were going through it. We had a list of about 10 names, and once we finally figured out the sex, literally we chose Ava within about ten minutes of knowing the baby was going to be a girl. We just said, "Ava Otto just sounds right."

She's the fifteenth celebrity baby named Ava in our database (not surprising, perhaps, since Ava is the #5 name in the USA). But there are a couple of ways in which the name Ava is especially apt for this pair.

First of all, like mama Amy, Ava's name begins with A and is three letters long. It's also, like her mother's name, a name among the most popular in the country at her time of birth.

The second reason why this name is apt for the Ottos will already have occurred to some of you, and is in fact a key part of why her parents chose the name. As James continued in the same interview:

Plus Ava and Otto are both a palindrome -- you can spell them both backwards and forwards.

Palindrome names have been in fashion for years. In fact, Ava has risen just as Hannah has slipped from its peak (#2 from 1998-2000, when Ava was well beyond the top 10; Hannah's now #23 to Ava's #5). Palindrome names Elle and Eve are also climbing the charts.

When the last name is also a palindrome, a palindromic first name like Ava moves beyond simple popularity and becomes something with a hint of whimsy.

Okay readers, here's a challenge. If the Ottos were to continue giving only palindrome names to future children, what could they choose? What palindromic names would you give a brother and sister to Ava Otto?
