Lily Allen Is Expecting A Boy

Last week, pregnant singer/songwriter Lily Allen announced that she and her boyfriend, Sam Cooper, are expecting a baby boy in early 2011. Allen is on the cover of the current issue of Stylist, and she told a journalist for the British magazine that knowing she's having a boy has made impending motherhood seem more real. It has also inspired her to make a secret list of potential baby names.

Even though Allen and Cooper have decided to keep their list private, we do know that they won't be taking any inspiration from fellow British stars such as Jamie Oliver (son Buddy Bear) and Victoria Beckham (sons Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz); in the interview, Allen says that her boyfriend is "way too straight and traditional" for unusual baby names. Cooper works in construction, and Allen claims he would be mocked at work if the couple chose an attention-grabbing name.

We can't say we blame her. And we can certainly understand. What expectant parents haven't wondered how family, friends and even coworkers will perceive their name of choice? We also can't say we're surprised. Lily and Sam are both names that fall well within the confines of "straight and traditional." And it seems to us that Allen might have a thing for men with solid, familiar names; her ex-boyfriend was musician Ed Simons of the band Chemical Brothers. Allen also comes from a like-minded family. Her parents are actor-musician Keith Allen and film-producer Allison Owen, and her siblings are Sarah, Alfie and Rebecca.

Naturally, we couldn't pass up another opportunity to put the BabyNameWizard.com's Name MatchMaker to good use. We're confident Cooper's coworkers will approve of the results!

I read that Lily liked the idea of calling him Wilberforce, which may be too unusual for Sam so perhaps William would honour William Wilberforce and still be traditional.

There's no way a builder would call his son Edgar or Clifford!
