11 Names for Your 11-11-11 Baby

The countdown begins.  Today is February 11, 2011, otherwise known as 2-11-11, which means that if you conceive today, you have a pretty good chance of giving birth in nine months, on November 11, 2011, or 11-11-11.

We noticed the chatter last week as women across the Internet began Tweeting about their plans for conceiving an 11-11-11 baby.  (According to doctors, your ideal conception date is actually 2-18-11, assuming a 40-week pregnancy and regular 28-day menstrual cycles.  See this story for more)

So let's just say you do get lucky and conceive tonight.  What would you name your 11-11-11 baby? Here are 11 suggestions for 11-11-11 baby names from the editors here at NameCandy.com:

1. Leven (m) - A Scottish place name and the name of the title character in the contemporary children's fantasy book series Leven Thumps.

2. November (f) - Sure April, May and June are the months we hear most as names, but November is a perfectly lovely first name and lends itself the the nicknames Ember and Em.

3. Autumn (f) - A name in honor of the season of your baby's birth, Autumn is currently the 81st most popular name for girls in the U.S.

4. Nevele (f) - The once-famous Borscht Belt resort The Nevele was named for a group of eleven colleagues who happened upon the beautiful Catskills location on a nature walk. Clever as they were, they turned the site into a resort and turned the number "eleven" backwards to name it.  Nevele (pronounced (NEH-va-LEE) is the equivalent of Nevaeh, but for the word eleven.  (More on backwards baby names)

5. Elva (f) - Swedish for "eleven," Elva has a slinky appeal and a tradition here in the U.S., where   it peaked at #184 in the 1900s (imagine if its peak year were 1911!).

6. Hendeca (f) -  Greek for "eleven", but unlikely to catch on, unless you like nicknames like Henny.

7. Elvin (m) -  The name Elvin derives from "elf," the German word for "eleven".  Bonus points for fans of musician Elvin Bishop (Double-bonus points if you "fooled around and fell in love" on the night you conceived your 11-11-11 baby)

8. Onze (f) - French for "eleven," Onze could appeal to parents who love the name Agnes, but only with the French pronunciation. Added appeal for Francophile soccer fans.

9. Ursula (f) - Saint Ursula is said to have been martyred with 11,000 virgins.

10. Odd (m) - An unlikely choice, but Odd is currently the 11th most popular boy's first name in Norway.

11. Eleven (m or f?) - If you're going all-out on the 11-11-11 theme, then Eleven is the ideal choice for your 11-11-11 baby. In a world of babies named Ever and Seven, Eleven is a perfectly acceptable name and lends itself to more traditional nicknames like Ellie, Eve and Evie. (More on naming by the numbers.)

Which name is your favorite?  Do you have other ideas for 11-11-11 baby names?

I kind of like Eleven. Lev (m) and Eve/Evie (f) are great nicknames!

And Evelyn (m or f) has a nice slant rhyme quality vis a vis eleven

I think having a baby born 11/11/11 and calling him/her 'Eleven' is a bit too much! I love Autumn & Elva though

What about 'Apollo', as in Apollo 11, the first manned spacecraft on the moon - that's pretty cool and its a good name too.

Or perhaps 'Amp', if you're a fan of Spinal Tap?? lol

Evan and Levi could be good matches close to eleven, without being too obvious. For girls, Levina is a nice choice. If my child were born on 11-11-11, I would name him a very nice name!

I refuse to believe that Odd is the 11th most popular boys name in Norway! Checking the statistics for last year (2010) it's Adrian. (http://www.ssb.no/english/)
Odd was only given to a grand total of 6 boys in 2010 and his numbers ar dwindling since he was at 28 in 2000. The 11the most popular girls name is Maja (and Maia/Maya)

If you say that Odd is the 11th most used boys name in Norway counting all living men, then yes, it isn't far off. He's number 14. Hans is number 11. For women, Solveig is number 11 (and Marianne number 14.)

This post makes me think of beautiful Ellevine/Elevine and Ellef which were given to the 11th child in Norway when such practices were in use. The Norwegian word for Eleven is 'elleve' but the second 'e' is usually not pronounced. :)

What about Una, playing off of the ones rather than eleven? I think November would work well for a boy too.

Use a double L to make an eleven in the name; Holly, Molly, Bella, Ella, Jillian, Hillary, Dillon, Apollo (as mentioned above), Achilles, William, Allen, Maxwell or Mallory.

For a boy I like:
A first name beginning w/ an "L" w/ the middle named Evan, so:

L. Evan Doe

Well, the ideal set of twin names for that date is obvious:

Ella + Evan

Kenya, my sons are named Evan and Levi. :-)

The ones I would consider out of those listed are Leven (haha, can you tell why?), November, and Elva.

My daughter was due on November 11, 2009. We considered using Remember or Memory as her middle name, as November 11th is Remembrance Day here in Canada (and it would also have honoured a dear friend whose birthday was also November 11th). In the end, she was 3 days late, and we went with Verity instead.
