Pink's Baby Name: The Singer Goes Green!

Pink's Baby Name: The Singer Goes Green!
Revolutionpix/Fame Pictures

Pink is a first-time mom -- and she’s given her daughter a name with a splash of color.

The "Raise Your Glass" singer, who was born Alecia Moore, welcomed a baby girl on Thursday and shared the happy news via Twitter, writing: "We are ecstatic to welcome our new beautiful healthy happy baby girl, Willow Sage Hart. She's gorgeous, just like her daddy [Carey Hart]."

The baby’s name is a burst of botanical imagery. The continuously on-the-rise name Willow (#290 on the popular name list) comes from the tree, which is known for being graceful, flexible and feminine. Its canopy falls over its branches giving it a distinctive look that Shakespeare once beautifully described as “shimmering.” Very organically, Pink and Carey paired Willow with the middle name Sage -- the plant with special healing and cleansing properties. Sage is also a word to describe a spiritual teacher. It’s a gender-neutral name -- also spelled Saige for girls -- which has been on the popular name list since 1993 and is currently #471 for girls and #813 for boys. Actress Toni Collette named her daughter Sage Florence.

Of course, Sage is also a color name. Sage green is a greyish green color, like the leaves of the plant. It’s certainly not lost on us here at Name Candy that the singer -- whose stage name is Pink -- gave her daughter a name of a color, especially when she recently said that when it came to selecting a baby name, “I’m all about the meaning.”

The funny thing about Pink giving her daughter an earthy, nature name is that it was widely thought that the Pennsylvania native was having a son… and that the baby boy was going to be named, in part, after a brand of whiskey. That's right -- last year when Pink announced her pregnancy, she shared that if they had a boy he would be named Jameson. “My dad’s name is James, and my brother’s name is Jason,” she said. “[Carey and I] are both Irish, Carey’s middle name is Jason, [and] Jameson -- we like whiskey. That’s a no brainer.”

In fact, Pink went on to say that she was "terrified" at the mere thought of having a daughter because, she herself was a troublesome teen and didn't want to go head-to-head with an equally headstrong child. “My mom has always wished me a daughter just like me," Pink said. Jokingly adding, "I'm terrified one of us will go to jail."

Meanwhile, Carey -- who grew up feeling like he had a "girl's name" -- was less worried about the baby's gender and more concerned about giving the child a solid name. "He doesn't want kids to have a weird name," Pink has said. “I have to get him on the boat for originality."

Wish they'd hyphenated that name: Willow Sage Moore-Hart. Ha.

I like Willow. Nice to give it this new association.

Such a very lovely name for their baby. I love it, especially with said baby's last name.

(I've always adored Willow and Saige/Sage. So, thumbs up from me.)

Excellent choices- all of them. They roll nicely off the tongue together, and have a nice consistent feel to them. Good job Pink and Carey!

I'm so proud of myself- I guessed what she'd name the baby months ago and I was totally right. I knew she'd go for a nature-like name that is rising in popularity and had a hipster vibe. Willow Sage fits it to a tee!

I'm actually quite glad as I had feared the worst from her.

I love the names Willow and Sage separately, I'm just a little meh on them put together. Too botanical, maybe.

Both go nicely with Hart.

I might have reversed the order, if I was going to use those 3 names, and gone with Sage Willow Hart, but that's just me.

I honestly thought Pink and Carey would have gone for something a little more outrageous.

Two very overly used boring names, but to each their own.

Sorry, Willow makes me think of either dirty hippies or dwarfs (from that movie back in the '80s. But I have fallen in love with Sage.

I had picked out the name Ava for a girl (note: I'm not pregnant) and waffled between middle names forever: this one didn't sound right with the first name, this one didn't sound right with the last name, that one gave her funny initials...until I came across Sage. I think it's spunky and beautiful at the same time. It's one of my favorite colors, as well.

I really like Willow. It's my husband's favorite name, but it rhymes with our last name.

Not a fan of Sage, but it's tucked in the middle so I'd call it a draw there.

Wonderful job, Celebs!

I think that the names P!nk picked out for her baby are beautiful, together and apart. Both names have a special meaning. When you think about it, what P!nk has actually named her daughter, is "Strong Healer." What is so boring, unoriginal, or awful about that?

Terrible name. People should really stop trying to be so original and just give their kids a nice, pretty name. All they're doing is cursing their kids and giving them problems later in life.

Children named Moon Unit, Lourdes and Willow will be made fun of and bullied in school as opposed to kids named Michelle, Vanessa and Jennifer.

Stupid name.

I love the name that Pink and her husband named their new baby girl. It is different yet still updated and is normal enough where the child will not stand out where as some of these celebrity children will likely have a difficult time when they do go to school. I wish Pink and her family the best.
