Victoria and David Beckham: Top Five Baby Name Rumors

Victoria and David Beckham: Top Five Baby Name Rumors
Victoria and Brooklyn (Fame Pictures)

Behold, baby Beckham! Victoria and David Beckham have welcomed their fourth child and first daughter. She joins Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz.

No name has been announced (sigh!), but Baby Girl Beckham--the most eagerly anticipated sprout of the crowded summer celebrity baby name season--has already been the subject of months, even years, of name rumors. Let's take a look back.

5. Katherine: In February, British press announced that bookies had slashed the odds that Posh and Becks would name their daughter Katherine, in order to "pay homage to" their new friends, Prince William and Duchess Kate. Obviously, we thought this was silly.

4. Santa: In April, we reported on rumors that Victoria was in love with the name "Santa Beckham" for a girl. Our commenters rejected the idea, but suggested locations (Geneva, Florence), musical terms (Lyric) or Shakespeare maidens (Portia) as possible Posh inspirations. We drew on Baby Name Wizard's MatchMaker suggestions and tossed in possibilities like Paloma, Athena, Isis and Hero

3. Justine Bieber Beckham: Also in April, David Beckham told Jimmy Kimmel that son Romeo, who had suggested naming the baby after Justin Bieber, modified his suggestion to Justine Bieber when he learned Beckham Four would be a girl. Justine does have a certain noble quality we like...

2. Liberty, Justice, Freedom: Just last week there were rumors that not only had Victoria given birth on July 4th, but she and David had also chosen a very "American" name in honor of the day. The rumors were quickly shot down, but not before we all got in another round of guessing.

1. Luna: Which brings us to the oldest rumor going. Back in 2005 when she was pregnant with Cruz, Victoria told a reporter, "I love the word Luna. I know it's a girl's name, so maybe for the next baby." Which is to say, the one she just gave birth to, today. What are the chances she still likes "the word" Luna? Any chance this six-year-old rumor offers a sneak peek of the real name? We notice that the similar-but-punchier Lux has been suggested in the comments more than once. Maybe our commenters are on to something?

When will we find out? It could be a few days. According to a 'friend,' "They are going to spend a little time getting to know her before choosing the name."

Let the final speculating start! Give us your final ideas for baby Beckham below. Also, who do you think will announce a name first: Kate Hudson and Matthew Bellamy, or Victoria and David Beckham? Which name are you most eager to learn? And did you wait to get to know your baby before choosing a name? And one more: do you think it's harder to name a girl after naming three boys first?

[Editor's Note: This just in via David Beckham's Facebook page: the baby girl is named Harper Seven Beckham. Stay tuned for more details.]

I know that their boys were named for where they were conceived... so that could play a role. Angela (los angeles), Beverly (Hills) and maybe Santa (Barbara)?

I hope they don't go for Angela, Barbara, or Beverly! That would be so sad. They'll pick something fabulous and unusual. Maybe....Amariah, Amalie, Adelaide, Trinity, Selah, or Jessamyn. I somehow think the name will sound American.

I am more excited to hear their name than Kate Hudson's. Maybe because a baby girl after 3 boys is so exciting.

I think Angela is a great name, but I'm a bit bias as it's my own.

Harper Seven? That's disappointing. Haven't a bunch of celebrities used Harper or Seven?
