Mom-to-Be Linda Cardellini's Creative Baby Naming Process (Hint: It Involves A Hat!)

Linda Cardellini is taking a bit of a chance with her baby name selection process.

The actress, best known for her roles on Freaks and Geeks and ER, is expecting her first child with boyfriend Steven Rodriguez early next year. And while she's made a short list of names for the baby, a girl, the final decision will be made after the baby arrives when they have... a drawing.

“We have five different names," Linda explained to Access Hollywood. Then, "we’ll just pick [one] out of a hat when we see her.”

Baby naming is such serious business sometimes -- there's the researching of the names, getting both parties to agree on the name, testing it to see if it could be potentially be unfavorable to a child -- that Linda's approach actually sounds fun. If you get five names that you really love, you really have nothing to lose either.

Do you have any creative ways to pick baby names? How about in case of a deadlock? Any methods you used in that case? Share them below. Plus, let us know what you think of Linda's baby naming process.

Picking a name out out of a hat has a built in safeguard too. If you think you love all 5 names equally, putting it up to random chance is a great way to figure out which one really is the most special to you, because right as you're reaching in to pull out a name, you suddenly realize what you're hoping to pull out.says iuredna

I was thinking the exact same thing as Devin- if you pull out a name and are even slightly disappointed it's not one of the other names, then you'll know in that moment which name you really want to use. And you already know your husband is cool with it. I think this is an ingenious way of doing it!

I agree with the others.

I once heard a saying about a coin toss... in that second when it is in the air, you suddenly realize which way you want it to land.
