New Baby Alert! Rosie O'Donnell Welcomes Daughter Dakota
Fame/Flynet

Rosie O'Donnell has a new addition to her family! She and wife Michelle Rounds adopted a baby girl and announced the birth, which occured last week, on Twitter earlier today with a photo of all three. They named their new daughter Dakota

This is Rosie's fifth child, but the first for Michelle. Rosie has four children from her previous marriage to Kelli Carpenter - Parker Jaren, Chelsea Belle, Blake Christopher and Vivienne Rose.

Dakota fits right in with the names of her siblings. Although Parker, Chelsea and Blake all originate in England, from a transferred use of a surname or in Chelsea's case, borrowed from a London borough, whereas Dakota is derived from a Souian word, they were all fairly popular at the time O'Donnell chose them.

The name Dakota may have peaked in 2006 at No. 191, but if the names of Rosie's previous children are any indication, it could make a resurgence. Parker and Blake have only risen since the 1990s and Vivienne wasn't even in the top 1000 when O'Donnell and Carpenter chose it in 2002, but it has been rising fast over the past five years. Chelsea is the only one that has taken a dip.

Dakota also fits in with the current trend of place names, particularly US cities and states. We've all heard Virginia and Georgia, but Reese Witherspoon added a new one when she named her son Tennessee back in September and Jemima Kirke welcomed a son Memphis just last month.

What do you think of Dakota? Has it reached its peak or might it rise in popularity once again?

Reese has a son named Tennessee, rather than a daughter with that name.

Dakota is a dated 90s name. It also peaked much higher for boys in the 90s, and kinda stalled for girls even with Dakota Fanning being around. I doubt Dakota will rise
