Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Welcome New Baby Everly

Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Welcome New Baby Everly
Fame/Flynet

New parents Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan-Tatum announced their baby’s name today. The couple welcomed a girl last week in London, where Channing is filming a movie. We were delighted to see that they chose a rare name but one that fits in with a few different naming trends.

Via their website, the Step Up stars shared their news and revealed that the baby is named Everly Tatum. Everly is a brand new addition to the top-1000 names list. Our intrepid friends at Baby Name Wizard say the name has Anglo-Saxon roots and means "From the boar field." While the Anglo-Saxon sound may be a good fit, we don’t think the meaning had much to do with this name choice. For people a generation older than the Tatums, the first association with Everly is probably the Everly Brothers, a country-influenced rock and roll duo from the late 1950s.

Currently sitting at #902 on the charts, we think this name fits in nicely with other surname names, as well as the category that the Name Lady calls "Andro-Girly,” this post gives other examples of names in that category, and among recent celeb births we think Emerson (daughter of Joanna Garcia-Swisher) and Paisley (daughter of Jennie Finch) fit the bill. Everly also sounds a lot like former favorite name Beverl(e)y. Beverly was a top-20 name in the 1930s and stuck around for several decades. Thanks to its internal "Ever" (which is also an up and coming name) when it lost the B, Everly’s got a modern sheen but still sounds traditional.

What do you think of the name Everly Tatum? Does it fit with any other trends you’ve noticed?

H.A.

I liked it until the similarity to Beverley was pointed out. Now, that's all that I notice.

I'm heartbroken they used this name. I have wanted to use it for 13 years, and now if I ever get to people will think I got the idea from them. :( Oh, well. He wasn't even the first celeb to use it, jut the first very public one. Cam Gigandet also used it.
