While many of us take inspiration from celebrity names and pop culture (look no further than the fastest rising names each year for examples), it's always fun to hear about what went into the name of a child of a celebrity.  From honoring a family member to finding inspiration in unusual places, several celebrities shared their stories behind the name this week.  Who knows -- perhaps one of NameCandy's readers will find their inspiration from these stories.

Top Chef judge Gail Simmons found her inspiration in nature, naming her daughter Dahlia.  She told People Magazine that Dahlia is her favorite flower, and was her wedding flower of choice for her marriage.  Dahlia's middle name is in honor of an Aunt.  Gail Simmons isn't the first to look to nature for naming inspiration.  Poppy Montgomery, with a nature-inspired name herself, named her daughter Violet, and of course we can't forget Violet Affleck or Kelly Clarkson's new daughter, River.

Kendra Wilkinson found her naming inspiration in a more unusual place.  She tells People that when searching for a unisex name for her new daughter Alijah she found her inspiration from a chauffeur at Sundance, who's own daughter was named Alijah.  A chance encounter in a car lead to her daughter's name -- so baby namers, take note, your inspiration can happen anywhere and everywhere.

Some celebrities this week are still in the process of finding that perfect name.  Former Smash star Megan Hilty talked with People and revealed that she and husband Brian Gallagher are down to the short list of three names for their upcoming arrival.  While she wouldn't reveal the names, she did reveal one name requirement set by her mother: The name should be five letters or less, because her mother knits Christmas stockings for new members of the family each year, and her arthritis makes longer names painful to stitch.

Do you have any interesting naming inspiration stories?  What names might be on Megan Hilty's short list and fit the requirements set forth by her mom?
